چکیده

This work presents the dynamic modeling of an untethered electromagnetically actuated magnetic micro-robot, and compares computer simulations to experimental results. The micro-robot, which is composed of neodymium-iron-boron with dimensions 250 μm x 130 μm x 100 μm, is actuated by a system of 5 macro-scale electromagnets. Periodic magnetic fields are created using two different control methods, which induce stick-slip motion in the micro-robot. The effects of model parameter variations on micro-robot velocity are explored and discussed. Micro-robot stick-slip motion is accurately captured in simulation. Velocity trends of the micro-robot on a silicon surface as a function of magnetic field oscillation frequency and magnetic field strength are also captured. Mismatch between simulation and reality is discussed.

Modeling and Experimental Characterization of an Untethered Magnetic Micro-Robot

Here we present the control, performance and modeling of an untethered electromagnetically actuated magnetic micro-robot. The microrobot, which is composed of neodymium–iron–boron with dimensions 250 m 130 m 10 m, is actuated by a system of six macroscale electromagnets. Periodically varying magnetic fields are used to impose magnetic torques, which induce stick–slip motion in the micro-robot. ...

Multiple magnetic microrobot control using electrostatic anchoring

Addressing power and control to individual untethered microrobots is a challenge for small-scale robotics. We present a 250 130 100 m3 magnetic robot wirelessly driven by pulsed external magnetic fields. An induced stick-slip motion results in translation speeds over 8 mm/s. Control of multiple robots is achieved by an array of addressable electrostatic anchoring pads on the surface, which sele...

Stick–slip behavior of ice streams: modeling investigations

A puzzling phenomenon of ice-stream flow is the stick–slip motion displayed by Whillans Ice Stream (WIS), West Antarctica. In this study we test the hypothesis that the WIS stick–slip motion has features similar to those of other known stick–slip systems, and thus might be of the same origin. To do so, we adapt a simple mechanical model widely used in seismology to study classic stick–slip beha...

Fingertip Radius Effect of an on-Surface-Manipulated Object

Cooperative arms are two or more arms in series which assume the structure of a parallel robot on account of gripping an intermediary object, and are commonly used in accurate assembly industries, coaxialization, movement of object, etc. Gripping an intermediary object is one of the complicated subjects in analysis of cooperative arms, whose analysis is mostly dependent upon the manner the obje...

Dynamic Modeling and Construction of a New Two-Wheeled Mobile Manipulator: Self-balancing and Climbing

Designing the self-balancing two-wheeled mobile robots and reducing undesired vibrations are of great importance. For this purpose, the majority of researches are focused on application of relatively complex control approaches without improving the robot structure. Therefore, in this paper we introduce a new two-wheeled mobile robot which, despite its relative simple structure, fulfills the req...
